AMAR SINGH COLLEGE
DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Mathematics, as Bertrand Russell said, if rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show.In the words of John Locke, Mathematics is a way to settle in the mind a habit of reasoning. Mathematics has almost always been important for human progress. However, the fact remains that, in current times, it has become an indispensable tool of all research. Its impact is universal and its sphere of influence seems ever-increasing in its radius. There is hardly a branch of scientific knowledge that has remained untouched by Mathematics. The department is one of the oldest in the college, has a rich legacy, and continues to disseminate the rigor and appreciation for mathematics.
